The Council has also asked that some consideration be given to a fee for K & J Catering
which would provide equity with the fee that on -sale liquor license holders must pay.
Little Canada's proposed on -sale fee for 2001 is $3,000. Dividing that fee by 365 days
equates to a $8.22 per day cost. If K & J Catering is proposing to utilize the rental hall on
Fridays and Saturdays, an appropriate fee may be approximately $850.00 annually.
Another factor to consider is that My Le Hoa caters many weddings at their restaurant at
2900 Rice Street. My Le Hoa currently holds a Wine License ($500), Malt Liquor
License ($100), and Consumption & Display License ($300), for a total of $900 in City
license fees annually.
Based on this information, it would be City staff's recommendation that the fee charged
to K & J Catering would be $900.00 for the first year, with review of that fee by the end
of the year.
It should also be noted that the Planning Commission has recommended that K & J
Catering be required to have an off -duty police officer present at all their rentals where
alcohol is served. This police presence should ensure compliance with liquor laws.
Lastly, the City Attorney's review of this issue is attached. An annual license fee can be
established as part of a CUP as well as any other conditions deemed appropriate. Given
his opinion that revocation of a CUP versus another license issued by us raises essentially
the same issues, the CUP should be adequate to address this matter.
cc: Tom Conroy
K & J Catering
Page 6
