LLAYOR
Michael 1. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600 ADMINISTRATOR
(651) 484 -2177 / FAX: (651) 484 -4538 Joel R. Hanson
Email: cityhall @ci.little - canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: October 6, 2000
RE: Parking on McMenemy Road
Since we have posted "No Parking" on a number of City streets, we have been receiving calls
asking why. We have explained that it has been the City's policy to post streets with on- street
paths as "No Parking" to improve pedestrian safety. We have also explained our parking permit
procedure and that we make it very easy for residents to obtain permits on short notice.
Two parties have asked to address the Council on this matter to resolve what they feel will be
long- standing problems. The first is St. John's School and the difficulty they have with faculty
parking and parking for special events. (See letter attached). The second was addressed by Rick
and Bev Collova of 2500 McMenemy who indicate that there are many times that unplanned
gatherings occur at their house where their driveway area is not sufficient to accommodate
parking. Given the time of day this would occur, it would not be possible to get permits.
Staff is discussing what could be done to issue permits in these situations. We may have some
ideas by Wednesday's meeting. However, we are not sure any good solutions exist that would
not circumvent the entire purpose of the ordinance.
These parties will be present to discuss their concerns with you. If you desire any additional
information in the meantime, please let me know.
\ \CLCSRVOI \HOME \KrisP \CORRESP\2000 \McMe
Page 24
