MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600 ADMINISTRATOR
(651) 484 -2177 / FAX: (651) 484 -4538 Joel R. Hanson
Email: cityhall @ci.little- canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel R. Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: October 6, 2000
RE 10% Fund Budget
Attached is the projected revenue portion of the 10% Fund. You will note that revenues
for budget year 2000 are below estimate. It is my opinion this was caused by the break -in
at Little Canada Bingo Hall and the decline in patronage at the Hoggsbreath this past
spring. This has reduced the dollars projected for the McNamara park play equipment.
With 50% of these funds being used to reimburse parks and recreation overhead, we only
have about $20,000 available for 2001. Given the number of park development needs
that exist and the pending improvement of the McNamara property, I am recommending
we forego the ranking process this year and allocate the funds to the park development
area. I would also suggest we evaluate the elimination of the City's $4,000 contribution
to Canadian Days for fireworks. (Canadian Days shows a net profit of over $19,000 from
their gambling operation through the end of August, 2000.)
Should the Council disagree with this recommendation, we will then proceed with the
normal ranking process as outlined in our 10% Committee policy (copy attached).
cc: Sue Nelson, Canadian Days
Dick Boss, Fire Chief
Parks & Recreation Commission
Jean Donovan, Historical Society
Page 26
