Hanson, City Administrator <br />DATE: September 22, 2000 <br />RE: Little Canada Improvement Update <br />Here is an update on the status of the Little Canada Road improvement project. <br />• Attached is a project update newsletter from Howard R. Green that is being <br />distributed to property owners/tenants/residents in this area. <br />• We are not planning to assess the project this fall given that a number of project <br />components will not be completed. It is likely we will add it in with our 2001 <br />assessment hearings. <br />• A gravel surface should exist on the majority of the street by the end of next week. <br />Curb and gutter will follow soon thereafter and pavement should be in place before <br />the end of October. <br />• We are attempting to delete the sidewalk work from this fall's activity given our <br />concerns with settlement in the boulevard area caused by the utilities. We feel a <br />freeze /thaw cycle will help minimize this concern. <br />• We will be pursuing a change order to add some additional storm sewer work from <br />the end of Market Place Drive to Round Lake. Currently, a 36 -inch storm sewer <br />along Market Place Drive makes two 90 degree turns once it intersects with Little <br />Canada Road and then flows into a 24 -inch metal culvert on the south side of Little <br />Canada Road. Given the number of unknowns relative to new development in the <br />area, staff feels it would be wise to upgrade this outlet to 36 inches and eliminate the <br />metal culvert and 90 degree turns rather than risk tearing up Little Canada Road in the <br />future. No cost estimates are available at this time. (See plan sheet attached.) <br />Page 85 <br />
