CITY OF
LITTLE CANADA Little Canada Road Improvements
Issue No. 2 — September 22, 2000
Construction Notes
The Little Canada Road Improvements project is proceeding on the anticipated schedule. Construction
began in late August and it is anticipated that the street will be paved by the end of October.
Questions
Property owners with questions about the project should call Howard R. Green Company's representatives
–Terry Maurer, City Engineer, or Lee Elfering, Project Engineer, at (651) 644 -4389, or Lyle
Splittstoser, Project Inspector, at (612) 963 -7188, for construction related questions. Feel free
to talk to any of these individuals about issues or concerns you may have about the project.
Construction Update
A majority of the private utility work has been completed along Little Canada Road. The private utility work
remaining involves the switching of private overhead electric services to underground services. It is
anticipated that the overhead lines and utility poles will be removed by the by end of October.
The underground utility work, including watermain, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer installation is
anticipated to be completed by the end of next week. Street subcutting and grading have already started
and gravel will begin to be placed in another week on portions of Little Canada Road as the street grading
is completed.
The contractor will attempt to minimize disturbance of landscaping and lawn areas as grading of the street
progresses. However, please keep in mind that the contractor will be using equipment that requires
considerable area in which to work. Matching to existing lawns requires wider areas to be disturbed along
portions of the street. Please keep in mind that all areas disturbed will be restored and receive seed or
sod after the grading has been completed.
Tentative Schedule
As discussed above it is anticipated that the underground work will be completed by the end of next week.
The subcutting and grading of the street will follow along with the placement of gravel. It is anticipated that
curb and gutter will be constructed the middle of October. The first two lifts of bituminous will be placed
following curb construction. The final lift of bituminous will be constructed in the spring of 2001.
Please travel at a reduced speed through the work zone and pay close attention to the detour signage as
it will be modified as work progresses to direct traffic to the safest and quickest route within the
construction area.
As with any construction work, the schedule and completion of the project will be somewhat
dependent on the weather. If we have any significant precipitation, the construction site
may need to dry out prior to continuing work. We ask for your patience with weather
delays throughout this project. / /( ///
We urge you to use caution around the work site. Your assistance in reminding area children to stay clear
of construction equipment is helpful in maintaining a safe environment. Your continued patience and
r d
cooperation during this construction is appreciated. Watch for future issues of this newsletter for
updates on the progress of the project.
Page, 87
