City of Little Canada
Public Works Facilities Deficiency Study /Report
Scope of Work
1.0 General
As the City of Little Canada's population has grown, the infrastructure has also
grown, increasing the demands on the Public Works Departments facilities,
equipment and personnel. As this demand increases, the Public Works
Department will reach a point where they will be constrained by the size of their
facilities. Concern has been expressed that because the city is almost fully
developed, there may not be land available within the city to resolve the problem.
Therefore, a decision to either renovate or construct new Public Works facilities
needs to be made now.
The purpose of this study and report is to evaluate the City of Little Canada's
existing Public Works facilities, compare them to industry standards and identify all
deficiencies. The consultant will:
• Determine if the existing facilities meet current industry standards.
• Identify deficiencies with the existing city garage building.
• Develop cost estimates to correct all deficiencies.
• Determine the largest building that can be built on the existing city garage
property with estimated construction cost.
• With the assistance of the Public Works Department, determine if either a
renovated city garage or new facility on the existing city garage site can
accommodate future projected needs.
2.0 Information /Evaluation Phase
2.1 Task A Evaluate Existing Facilities
A -1 Gather background information (i.e. drawings, sketches, etc.) on all Public
Works facilities (buildings and storage areas) from Public Works Director and
City files.
A -2 Verify information and current condition of facilities.
A -3 Determine if they meet current industry, EPA, MPCA, NFPA, and OSHA,
standards.
A-4 Identify deficiencies with the existing city garage building.
A -5 Recommend changes /corrections to enable these facilities to meet current
standards.
