MINUTES <br />Parks & Recreation Commission <br />February 7, 2008 <br />with a portion being paid by each City. Maida asked if the bid is awarded to the lowest bidder. <br />Sanders replied that the bid is awarded to the lowest qualified bidder. <br />SKATEBOARD Davis noted that at the March 6"' meeting of the Commission the proposed skateboard <br />PARK - park at the Old Fire Hall rink will be discussed with the general public. Notice of this <br />OLD FIRE meeting was published in the City's newsletter. The Parks & Recreation Director will also <br />HALL RINK be inviting some skateboarders to attend the meeting as well as a representative of the company <br />that manufacturers the equipment. The City Clerk indicated that mailed notices will go to <br />property owners within 350 feet of property as well as to LCRA membership. <br />The City Clerk reported that St. Paul Regional Water Utility will be discussing a rider to allow <br />installation of the concrete base at their meeting in March. <br />The Parks Consultant noted that there are still a couple of hurdles with regard to the project, i.e. <br />finalization of the rider agreement with the Water Utility. It is felt, however, that the <br />neighborhood meeting should be conducted at this time. The Consultant indicated that <br />neighborhood reaction to the skateboard park is not known at this time, but he pointed out that <br />the park would be a City-wide recreational facility. <br />Maida indicated that he has heard that the City of Maplewood has had a lot of success with their <br />skateboard park. <br />Davis noted that the equipment company representative will be at the meeting and will be able <br />to answer a lot of questions. <br />OLD FIRE The Parks Consultant indicated that the lighting at the Old Fire Hall hockey rink and the <br />HALL RINK Spooner Park tennis court is old and needs to be upgraded. Consideration is being given <br />AND to request bids for these lighting upgrades. The Consultant noted that with regard to the <br />SPOONER lighting at the Old Fire Hall hockey rink, there is no intention to light the skateboard park. <br />PARK <br />TENNIS Maida asked about the level of illumination that would be planned for these facilities <br />COURTS noting his safety background. He pointed out that there are engineered lighting standards <br />LIGHTING that should be taken into consideration. The Parks Consultant indicated that these standards <br />would be utilized in developing the specs for the lighting project. <br />ACTIVE The City Clerk reported that the City received no response to a recent article in the <br />LIVING newsletter seeking individuals interested in representing the City at Active Living <br />RAMSEY Ramsey County Partnership meetings. The Clerk indicated that if any of the <br />COUNTY Commissioners are interested in serving in this capacity, they should contact the Parks & <br />Recreation Director. <br />The Commissioners requested that the Parks & Recreation Director email them more specific <br />information on Active Living Ramsey County. There appeared to be interest from some of the <br />Commissioners dependent on meeting schedules, time commitment, etc. <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />
