NrAC
MEMORANDUM
NORTHWEST ASSOCIATED CONSULTANTS
COMMUNITY PLANNING - DESIGN - MARKET RESEARCH
RECEIVED MAY 1 1 209
TO: Little Canada Planning Commission
FROM: Stephen Grittman
DATE: May 9, 2000
RE: Little Canada - Medical Clinic Definitions
FILE NO: 758.10 - 00.05
Recently, the City encountered a proposal which would have resulted in the establishment
of a chemical dependancy treatment center in a vacant portion of the Market Place
shopping center. The zoning ordinance allows medical and dental offices by permitted
use, and requires a conditional use permit for "rehabilitation centers ". The definitions of
each use caused a problem in that neither seemed to apply directly to chemical
dependancy treatment.
As such, staff is proposing minor adjustments in the definitions to more clearly state that
chemical dependancy treatment falls into the class of rehabilitation center, rather than
medical clinic. The use would then require a conditional use permit.
cc: Kathy Glanzer
5775 WAYZATA BOULEVARD.
