The attached drawing shows the proposed layout of
the First Bank Drive hub.
Based on their proposed schedule, construction of this transit hub will occur during the
reconstruction of Little Canada Road. Since we will be detouring traffic along First Bank
Drive at various times during the Little Canada Road construction, close coordination
with Metro Transit and the transit hub contractor will be required.
A review of their drawings indicates that they are proposing to operate six buses through
this hub. This will result in excessive wear of First Bank Drive, Middle Street and
Market Place Drive. To minimize this impact Metro Transit has indicated that they are
willing to repair and overlay First Bank Drive to bring it up to engineering standards
sufficient to support the expected bus traffic. Middle Street and Market Place Drive are
scheduled to be reconstructed in 2001 and would therefore not require any overlay work.
Metro Transit has indicated that they are willing to match the type of street lights we are
installing along Little Canada Road to illuminate the hub area.
Based on the above I recommend Council approval of the construction and use of an
interim transit hub along First Bank Drive subject to the following conditions:
1. Illumination of the hub area be accomplished with street lights that
match those being installed along Little Canada Road. Further, that
these lights be spaced at 75 foot intervals with 150 watt bulbs and comply
with NSP's Group 5 rate program.
\ \CLCSRVOI \ HOMEUessica J \Greg\Streets \Interin
Page 44
