MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600 ADMINISTRATOR
(651) 484 -2177 / FAX: (651) 484 4538 Joel R. Hanson
Email: cityhall @ci.little - canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
FROM: Kathy Glanzer, Deputy Clerk
DATE: December 30, 1999
RE: 2000 Legal Newspaper Designation
The City has received a quote from Lillie Suburban Newspapers for 2000 Legal
Newspaper designation. No other quotes were received. Below is a comparison of this
quote with the 1999 rates.
Floor Agendas
Legal Rate
1999 2000
Lillie Lillie
Suburban Suburban
$37/Mo. $39/Mo.
$3.9511n. $4.05 /In.
As you will recall, last year the City discontinued the publication of Council meeting
minutes. The cost for publishing these minutes had been $249.00 per month, and Lillie
Suburban is providing the same offer for 2000.
In lieu of publishing the minutes, the City has been mailing minutes to property owners
requesting to be on this mailing list. Currently, there are ten sets of minutes mailed and
two sets sent via e-mail. Based on calculations put together last year, the total cost for
mailing minutes to one property owner for the entire year is $43.77. Based on the
number of requests for minutes, it is more economical for the City to continue to mail
minutes rather than publish.
It is staff's recommendation that Lillie Suburban Newspapers be designated as the City's
legal newspaper for 2000, and that the City continue the practice of mailing Council
meeting minutes rather than publishing them.
Page 3
