Rather than copy all of it to attached this report, I thought
I would summarize it for your review. (If you would like the detailed information, I can provide
it you.)
With regard to the stop sign at Allen Avenue and DeSoto, the current placement of a three -way
stop seems appropriate given the fact that Allen Avenue now extends from DeSoto to Centerville
Road. A three -way stop makes sense given the relatively equal number of traffic volumes that
would approach the intersection in question. This item was last visited in late 1997. As you may
recall, our traffic deputy at that time recommended the existing three -way stop at the
intersection. Our City Engineers at that time recommended a stop sign only be installed on
DeSoto Street and that Allen Avenue be left as through movement. We had a petition with 43
signatures from the Allen Avenue /Costa Lane area asking for the stop sign installation.
We also mentioned the stop sign at Demont and Canabury Drive. Research into the records
indicates this sign was required to comply with State aid requirements for the improvement of
Demont. Given the 90° turn at the intersection with Canabury Drive, compliance with State aid
standards would not have been obtained without the stop sign.
page 228
