LITTLE CANADA PARKS & RECREATION
GIRLS' FASTPITCH SOFTBALL
GUIDELINES
REVISED JANUARY 20, 2000
Purpose:
The Little Canada Parks and Recreation Department, as a municipal recreation provider, is
primarily designed to run " Recreational Level" programs. The Little Canada Girls' Fastpitch
Program does not meet the criteria of "recreational level." Therefore, we have created some
separate policies to guide the operation of this program
The Little Canada Parks and Recreation Department desires that the Little Canada Girls'
Fastpitch Program shall:
a) Provide an opportunity to participate to all residents who desire such participation.
b) Focus on being fun and provide for the enjoyment of the participants, parents, and
coaches. Winning, though desirable, is not the primary goal;
c) Teach the basic fundamentals of the sport and provide each participant an opportunity
to develop individual skills and appropriate team skills;
d) Provide opportunities at various levels of skill and ability so that each participant can
compete with similarly skilled players;
e) Encourage and allow all participants to partake in all practices, tryouts, clinics, games
and other sponsored activities; and
f) Encourage coaches to provide equal playing time to all participants, provided that
each participant has met the team rules and attendance requirements for games and
practices established by the coach.
Affiliations:
The Little Canada Parks and Recreation Department is affiliated with the Tri- County Fastpitch
League. The Tri- County Fastpitch League is affiliated with the Minnesota Sports Federation
(MSF), and the level of play is governed by the Amateur Softball Association of America
(A.S.A.).
Age Levels:
Registration is open for girls 9 to 18 years of age. Five levels of league play are offered: 10 &
under, 12 & under, 14 & under, 16 & under, 18 & under. Little Canada Parks and Recreation
Department rules, League rules and MSF /ASA rules will govern age restrictions. Age for a
particular season is determined by the player's age on January 1 of that year. Players may
request to tryout for the next higher age level of play provided that their age is within one year of
the requested level. (Example: A 16 year old player may request to tryout for the 18 & under
team, and so on down through a 10 year old being eligible to request to tryout for the 12 & under
team.) The Parks and Recreation Department will then make a determination based on tryout
Page 240
