MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JULY 25, 2012
VETERANS
MEMORIAL
DEER HUNT
ON ST. JOHN'S
CEMETERY
PROPERTY —
ROCKY
WAITE
given a 2010 underpayment to trash haulers, the City had to record 13
payments in 2011.
Moeller again noted the clean opinion issued for the City for 2011.
The Council thanked Moeller for her presentation.
Montour introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2012 -7 -127 — ACCEPTING THE 2011 AUDIT AS
PRESENTED BY TAUTGES REDPATH, CITY AUDITORS
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by McGraw.
Ayes (5).
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
Rocky Waite appeared before the Council and suggested that a veterans
memorial be erected in the City in honor of those who have lost their lives
in serving our country in all branches of the military.
The consensus of the Council is that a committee would be formed to
develop options for a memorial as well as a placement location. The City
Administrator indicated that he would put some parameters together for
committee membership and would bring that back to the Council for
review. An announcement could then be put in the next City newsletter
seeking committee membership.
Rocky Waite reported that he has reviewed both the minutes and meeting
tapes from the September 9, 2009 and October 14, 2009 City Council
meetings and indicated that he disputes statements made by the Council
that St. John's Church contacted the City expressing interest in a deer
hunt on the cemetery property.
Blesener noted that in 2007 a property owner asked the City for a permit
to hunt the cemetery property. That property owner submitted a letter
from St. John's in support of the deer hunt. Blesener noted that the City
did not approve the permit. Then in 2009 the City was considering a deer
hunt by the Metro Bowhunters Resource Board (MBRB) and given the
letter the City received from St. John's in 2007, the Council felt that St.
John's would be supportive of a hunt on the cemetery property (beyond
the grave area). The City contacted St. John's and they gave their
approval. The St. John's cemetery property has been hunted by the
MBRB in 2009 and each year since.
10
