City of Little Canada <br />Cell Phone Policy <br />Purpose <br />The purpose of this policy is to provide guidance with regard to who has cell phone <br />privileges, how the phones are paid for, and the City's expectations of the cell phone <br />users. <br />Care and Use <br />Employees in possession of a City - issued cell phone are required to care for the phone in <br />a responsible manner, and to take appropriate precautions to prevent theft, damage, and <br />vandalism. <br />Employees shall not engage in text messaging or any other phone operations that impair <br />driving while operating a vehicle or any equipment at any time, including non- working <br />hours. <br />Employees Assigned a Cell Phone <br />Cell phones are available to any employee who needs one for work duties as determined <br />by the department heads and City Administrator. They may use their own phone and be <br />reimbursed by the City or they can use a phone provided by the City. <br />Temporary and seasonal employees are not eligible for City cell phones or <br />reimbursement. <br />Phones paid for in whole or in part by the City are public property and all information <br />relayed through them could be subject to review by others, <br />Personal Use <br />Cell phones assigned by the City may be used for personal calls. Employees will pay a <br />portion of the monthly cost of the phone to gain personal use privileges. Employees who <br />choose to use the work - provided phone for work purposes only will not be charged a <br />monthly fee. <br />Monthly Cosi per Employee <br />Each employee will be responsible for one -third of the monthly cost of the phone. <br />Extra Features <br />Employees may add features to their phones such as e -mail, Internet, and <br />unlimited text messaging. Each employee is responsible for any additional costs <br />associated with these extra features unless one or all of these extra features are <br />
