Hanson As requested, I visited properties at Ryan Industrial Park to determine if they would support blacktopping the parking areas behind the buildings. The following are my findings and conclusions: *3172/3174 Ryan Lane: The area behind this building slopes away from the building providing good surface drainage. I dug a hole about 6" deep in the area of the proposed parking area and determined the soil in this area is made up of what appears to be a combination of Class 5, sand, gravel, and organic material. I did not hit water in my test hole. The owner told me that water is about 12" down in this area. Based on the above, it is my opinion that a paved parking surface is possible at the proposed parking area. However, blacktop cannot be placed over the existing soil. I recommend that the area be excavated to a depth of 10" to 12" (just above ground water level), stabilization fabric be installed, 4" to 6" of sand be placed on the fabric, 6" of Class 5 be placed on top of the sand, and 3" of asphalt be placed on top of the Class 5 (see sketches "A" and "B" attached). It is my opinion that a better location for the paved parking area is along the south fence starting next to the building. The soil looks better there and this area is higher than the proposed area. 3176/3179 Spruce Street: The area behind this building slopes away from the building providing good surface drainage. In general, this area is higher than the neighboring properties. I did not dig a test hole at this site, as the owner was not present. Based on the surface, the soil appears to be a Page 25
