515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 484 -2177 / FAX: (651) 484 4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: July 23, 1999
RE: Rice Street/Little Canada Road Redevelopment Update
Eminent Domain Proceedings for Guerin Property:
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
The City Attorney has prepared a memo summarizing the course of events from the
Commissioner's hearing held on July 19`h. As he indicates in his memo, we expect a decision by
the end of the month on this matter. The City Attorney can discuss this matter with you in
greater detail.
Christenson /Collyard Redevelopment Proposal:
The developers have informed me that they are making significant progress in the attraction of
major tenants for their redevelopment concept. It is anticipated that we will be meeting with
some of the key tenants within the next two to three weeks. As I am sure you are aware, we keep
shifting the deadline for some significant action out two or three weeks every Council meeting.
While the City is not the driving force behind this project, I believe we are once again reaching a
point where we need to bring some certainty to this matter. While I do not feel it is necessary to
impose any specific deadlines given the City is not actively pursuing this project, I do believe we
need to see some significant progress by the end of August. There are other issues we need to
deal with in the foreseeable future that the status of this project would impact.
JRH:kpp
cc: Gary Collyard
PAGE 142
