515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 484 -2177 / FAX: (651) 484 -4538
Current Shelter Plans
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
Northstar Estates - Residents have to drive 1 1/4 miles to the Ramsey County garage, or
drive 1 1 /2 miles to the old fire station.
Terrace Heights - Residents go to Roseville Area Middle School. Most residents walk
across the field to the school.
3020 - Residents go to the basement of the park owners home, which is located within the
park. This site has no handicap access.
My biggest concern is with Northstar Estates residents driving 1 ih miles to the old fire
station. Most residents don't leave their homes until the sirens have sounded, so they
may be driving thru severe weather, and or heavy traffic especially at County Dr and
Little Canada Rd. Since the City approves the evacuation plans I question whether the
City bears any liability of citizens driving this distance to the shelter.
Another concem I have is when the old fire station is opened it either ties up public works
employees, or fire department members. If we would have weather related damage in the
city, both public works and the fire department would need all available personnel to
respond to calls for assistance in the city.
I think we need to look into what it would take for Northstar Estates to build their own
shelter. We may also need to look into some other options for the other 2 parks.
Page 97
