515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 484 -2177 / FAX: (651) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Greg Schroeder, Public Works Director
DATE: August 24, 1999
RE: No Parking Signs on South Owasso Blvd.
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaVaile
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
I have been informed. that there are traffic safety concerns in conjunction with the parking along
South Owasso Blvd. from Rice Street to Yorkton Blvd.
I went out and viewed this area and offer the following observations:
1. South Owasso Blvd. is one of only three streets that enter /exit the Yorkton Industrial
area and Ryan Industrial Park.
2. This street is experiencing a lot of large truck traffic that will also include school
buses in a couple of weeks.
3. South Owasso Blvd. has 66' of right -of -way, with a street width of 37.5 front of curb
to front of curb. No parking is allowed on the north side of the street.
4. There are numerous businesses along both sides of this street that have driveways.
5. There are moving vans and other vehicles parking along the south side of the street.
Even though they are sometimes parking partially on the street boulevard, the street
seems very restricted due to the large vehicles that use this street. Also, they block
your view of the street forcing vehicles that wish to pull out onto South Owasso Blvd.
to move their vehicle out into the traffic lanes.
Based on the above, I recommend that both the north and south sides of South Owasso Blvd. be
posted as "no parking" areas from Rice Street to Yorkton Blvd.
GS:kp
Page 20
