Mayor & City Council
October 21, 1999
Page 2
♦ The County's share of costs is governed by actual costs of the project applied against
their participation policy. This will likely result in higher funding than what is indicated
in the proposed cost sharing arrangement.
♦ The project is anticipated to commence in the spring of 2000. It is hoped that the
construction will be completed within 120 days, if not sooner. The City Engineer will
comment on the feasibility of this timeline.
♦ A theater project may be proposed to us in the very near future. (I will believe it when I
see it.) This theater group has asked that Little Canada Road be constructed to a four -
lane width. The City Engineer will comment on the need for additional right -of -way and
the feasibility of this concept. I am not convinced at this time that it is necessary, but it
may be a requirement if this project is to move forward.
To keep the process moving, it is my recommendation that staff be authorized to conduct
neighborhood meetings with abutting property owners. We should then hold an improvement
hearing in early to mid - December to keep this process on track. The City Engineer's comments
will be presented at Wednesday's meeting. Should you have any questions in the meantime,
please let me know.
JRH.kpp
PAGE 225
