We understand the
City of Little Canada requested you to construct a paved parking
area behind your building. On August 11, 1999, you requested our
services to put down two soil borings in the proposed parking area
and provide pavement, recommendations.
QQNC.1.115XQNS „M .REQOMMENPAIIQK$$
Based on the soil borings and our observations of the existing
parking area, we have the following conclusions:
1. The upper 3' of the suhgrnde is suitable to support. 1 ight.
vehicle loadings. The surface is covered with several inches
of recycled asphalt. We encountered well - consolidated sand
with gravel and cemented sand with gravel to at least 3' below
surface grade.
2. Pavement placed over the fill will be subjected to distress
from frost heaving due to the high water table and
differential settlement of the poorly consolidated mineral
fill and organic fill below the upper 3' of the subgrade.
3. if the area requires additional pavement we recommend the
installation of a flexible bituminous pavement over the
existing grade. For light vehicle parking we recommend
placing a 2” thick layer of bituminous pavement. We
anticipate the pavement will become distressed and maintenance
repairs should be budgeted.
FTELD_ EXP1,njtATTQN
On August 17, 1999, we put down two standard penetration borings to
11 1/2' below grade in the proposed parking area. A sketch showing
the boring locations is attached. Logs of the soil borings are
also attached.
Page 20
