From: METRO CLEANING SERVICE, INC.
Page two
6S
4042231
P03
Recycled asphalt covered the surface of the area where we put down
the borings. Below the surface we encountered several inches of
sand with gravel which was underlain with a layer of cemented sand
and gravel and sand with gravel to at least 3' below grade. In
boring *1, more than 1' of cemented sand and gravel was recovered
in the split barrel sampler when driving the sampler from 6" to 1
1/2' below the surface. We determined the upper portion of the
suhgrade was very stable. We did note the sampler became wet from
water when driven between 2 1/2' and 4' and at all lower sampling
intervals at both boring locations.
When sampling below 4' below grade wet, samples of interbedded sand
and gravel, organic silty sand, and peat were retrieved in the
split barrel sampler. The boreholed were left open from 10 to 20
minutes after completion of the borings to observe the water level.
The water level rose to 38" below grade in boring *2 before the
boreholes were filled.
We did not observe any rutting of the surface in the area the
borings were placed. We understand this area was used for light
vehicle parking. On the southeast aide of the property there was
a storm water pond. The storm water pond indicated the subsurface
water conditions are high in the area and contribute to frost
heaving conditions. The bituminous pavement of Ryan Drive in front
of Metro Cleaning Services appeared to have several bumps in the
'pavement related to frost heaving.
PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERIIN CONSULTANTS, INC.
c4 4.1.4L1
hn F.
