May 6, 1999
City of Little Canada
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, MN 55117
Re: Request for extension
This letter is to apprise you of the progress of "The CoffeeHouse," to be built on the comer of County Road
C and Rosewood Avenue. Our progress has been slowed somewhat, but we are now in the final stages and
will be ready to begin construction soon. Because of the shortages of builders and material resulting form
last year's storm damage, it took us months to find a builder, but we now have a competent and experience
builder who is ready to put our project on the schedule.
Accotnplislunents to date:
• Financing has been obtained.
• A builder has been secured.
• The proper variance from the Health Department has been obtained.
• The land has been surveyed by Comstock & Davis, Inc., Consulting Engineers and Land Surveyors
• A Site Grading and Drainage Plan has been prepared by Bryian R Dobie, P.E.
• A professional commercial kitchen designer has prepared detailed kitchen plans.
We are now in the process of a "re -draw" required by the Building Inspector. He is requiring us to have
plans prepared by a licensed professional. We were not aware of this in the beginning because a licensed
architect is not required to build a home and we did not anticipate this requirement for such a small project.
We have met, and will continue to meet, all city, county and state code requirements. However this re-
draw will take another three to four weeks to complete, and the plans will be delivered to the Building
Inspector and Health Department for final approval. This should be our final step before construction can
begin. We are very anxious to get this project under way and hope to start building in the month of June.
The purpose of this letter is not only to keep you informed of developments but also to request an extension
of our rezoning, conditional use permit and variance approval, which currently is valid until July 7, 1999.
(See yours of July 8, 1998)
Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter. Please inform us if there is anything else
expected of us at this time.
Sincerely,
Jan and Doug McMillan
Comer Coffee House Inc.
2677 Lakeshore Avenue
Little Canada, MN 55117
Copies to:
.-r 11 k )) &( 3c
Homes by Ness
Greg Schmit
Lori Green
Dr. George Krienke
Page 6
