515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 484 -2177 / FAX: (651) 484 4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Greg Schroeder, Public Works Director 451
DATE: April 22, 1999
RE: Replacement of 1985 4WD Truck
MAYOR
Michael L Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
As you may recall, the 1985 4WD 1/4 ton pickup was sold last year and was scheduled and
budgeted to be replaced in 1998. However, I delayed this purchase until I could evaluate and
verify the need for a new truck.
Based on this evaluation, it has been concluded that Public Works needs two trucks with utility
boxes. One utility truck would be used as a sewer /sign service truck and the other as a water
service truck. We currently have two trucks with utility boxes on them. However, one is on the
1990'/2 ton pickup that I use.
Since the 1990 '/2 ton pickup is a little old and undersized for the work we want to impose on it,
it was determined that the best value for the City would be to go ahead and replace the 1985
pickup with a new F250 (3/4 ton) 4WD super duty super cab pickup and take the utility box off
the 1990 and mount it on the new truck.
This pickup can be purchased through the State of Minnesota Pricing Contract at a total cost of
$24,040.50. The budget is $24,000.
Authorization to purchase this vehicle is requested.
GS:kp
Page 142
