CITY OF LITTLE CANADA <br />POLICY FOR RESIDENTIAL STREET LIGHTING <br />ADOPTED DECEMBER-1-17-1-9-8,5 <br />ADOPTED JANUARY - -, 1999 <br />GENERAL] <br />This policy applies to street lighting erected within the public right -of -way for the <br />purpose of lighting public streets. <br />Traffic safety shall mean both vehicle and pedestrian safety. <br />Requested and /or proposed light locations shall be physically inspected by the Public <br />Works Supervisor Director to determine the feasibility of placement and tho nood need <br />and feasibility of placement. <br />Existing lights that may overlap, ace -that are spaced too close per the City standards or <br />that are deemed hazardous or unnecessary for traffic safety can be removed or moved <br />upon direction of the Public Works Supervisor Director. <br />Since Street lights are provided for street traffic safety only, as noted in this policy, <br />lighting for persenalleeighboitheed personal and /or neighborhood security is not allowed <br />under this policy. Security lighting is to be purchased by the owner desiring Gush <br />personal and /or neighborhood security. Special hazards relating to traffic or pedestrian <br />safety may also be considered. <br />STREET LIGHT REQUEST <br />Streetlights will be considered upon receipt of a petition from property owners on the <br />affected street, or upon recommendation of the Public Works Supervisor Director. <br />demonstrates a specific nood warranted, duo to traffic safety. The City Staff will review <br />and give consideration to petitions that demonstrate a specific or warranted need, due <br />to traffic and /or pedestrian safety. <br />A petition requesting a light shall be by 50% 60% of the abutting property owners <br />affected. The petition and signatures shall mean the consent of the affected property <br />owners, to the City, to locate a light near their property. A property owner shall be <br />deemed affected if the property is within 308 -feet 300 feet in any street direction from <br />the proposed location, on either side of the street. <br />Page 63 <br />
