A street light request may be delayed due to lack of funds in a given budget year. City <br />Council and /or the Public Works &ervisex Director must approve all light requests <br />prior to placement and after receiving the Public Works Department recommendation on <br />such. <br />City Council approval will be required in the following cases only; kazarateus -ate <br />ornamental requests beyond policy guidelines and non -Group V lighting, aerial -arid <br />any and all deviations from this policy, any and all cases not <br />covered by this policy. <br />The Public Works Suporvisor Director may approve all locations which that do not <br />require City Council approval, and are consistent with this policy. <br />LOCATIONS CONSIDERED <br />A street light may be installed at every street intersection open for traffic in the City, <br />except in cases where the Public Works Supervises Director determines adjacent street <br />lighting is adequate to cover an intersection or the low volumes of traffic and <br />pedestrians does not warrant the installation. <br />Mid -block street lights may be installed where the center line to center line distance <br />between cross streets is greater than 608 -feet 1200 feet or less if sight distance <br />warrants and is determined necessary by the Public Works Supervises Director. Lights <br />are not to be placed closer than X50 foot 600 feet apart. Mid -block lights shall be <br />placed between lots on the property lines whenever possible. <br />Lighting shall be installed at dead end streets or cul -de -sacs greater than 300 feet in <br />length. <br />Other street lights may be considered if a specific safety hazard exists. The Public <br />Works SupsMeer Director shall review the location specified and provide a <br />recommendation to the City Council. <br />A street light may be installed at marked cross walks if greater than 250 feet from an <br />intersection light or if determined to be a hazardous traffic location by the Public Works <br />Supervises Director. <br />Arterial and collector streets are to be considered on an individual basis. Type, size and <br />spacing of lights is-te should take into account such facts as traffic volume, turning <br />movements etc. Generally the light spacing and type should follow the attached city <br />standards or its equivalent but could bo of highor wattage wattage standards may be <br />higher. <br />Page 64 <br />
