June 18, 1999 RE: Little Canada - Hardee's Sign Architectural Review FILE NO: . 758.09 - 99; The Hardee's restaurant at Rice Street and Country Drive is proposing to reopen under • new.management, with a revised design scheme which incorporates a new marketing package. As a result, they are proposing.to replace the existing signs on the property with newly constructed signs. Each of the proposed signs meets the City's Sign Ordinance for size, but is also subject to the Architectural Guidelines with regard to design and materials. • The Guidelines discourage internally lit plastic panel signs, as proposed on the "Mansard Sign° to face Country Drive: The Planning Commission, in its role as the design review board, directed the applicant to redesign the mansard sign so that' only the letters and logo are lit, and the background of the sign is unlit. •At the'.Planning Commission meeting, the applicant was unsure of the•ability to obtain such a sign. However, he hae since reported that Hardee's does supply, such a sign for this type of application.. The Planning Commission indicated that it would approve; of this sign .if, it did' not include a lighted background.
