Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morel=
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
1. On March 11, 1998, the Minnesota Sign Company applied for a sign permit for Bally's
Fitness. Mary Gran ley started to process the application. On March 25, 1998, she
contacted Minnesota Sign Company and informed them that the permit was on hold
because the City needed some additional information. Mary Granley left the City of
Little Canada's employ March 31, 1998.
2. Shawn Griffin (Minnesota Sign Company) assumed that when the additional information
was provided he would receive the permit.
3. In the end May 1998, Greg Schmidt asked about the permit, because Mr. Shawn Griffin
contacted him for a footings inspection. Elizabeth Mursko found the permit application.
After further inspection, it was found that this permit could not be issued, because it was
considered an off - premises sign. City code does not allow off - premises signs.
4. Elizabeth Mursko contacted Mr. Shawn Griffin and told him that the permit could not be
issued.
5. Mr. Shawn Griffin contacted Mr. Joel Hanson. Joel confirmed that the permit could not
be issued under the current conditions. He also pointed out to Mr. Griffin that a permit
had not been granted as evidenced by the lack of signature on the application form when
Mr. Griffin implied he had already received approval. Joel suggested that he talk to Mr.
Steve Grittman about possible options.
6. Mr. Shawn Griffin contacted Mr. Steve Grittman. Two plans were identified as possible
options at the discretion of Bally's Fitness and Mr. Schroeder the owner of the property.
Page 8
