MINUTES <br />CUP OR <br />PRELIMINARY <br />PLAT — <br />BALLY TOTAL <br />FITNESS <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />PLANNING COMMISSION <br />LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA <br />OCTOBER 8, 1998 <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a regular meeting of the Planning <br />Commission of the City of Little Canada, Minnesota was held on the 8th <br />day of October, 1998 in the Council Chambers of the City Center located <br />at 515 Little Canada Road in said City. <br />Chairman Gene DeLonais called the meeting to order at 7:30 P.M. and the <br />following members of the Commission were present at roll call: <br />MEMBERS PRESENT: Mr. Gene DeLonais <br />Mr. Scott Barraclough <br />Mr. Dennis Carson <br />Mr. Rick Montour <br />MEMBERS ABSENT: <br />ALSO PRESENT: <br />Mr. John Keis <br />Mr. Dan Knudsen <br />Mr. Fred Schletty <br />Mr. Steve Grittman, City Planner <br />Mr. Greg Schroeder, Public Works Director <br />Ms. Elizabeth Mursko, Code Enforcement <br />Mrs. Kathy Glanzer, Deputy Clerk <br />There being no corrections, the minutes of the September 10, 1998 regular <br />meeting of the Planning Commission were approved as submitted. <br />The City Planner reported that Bally Total Fitness would like to construct <br />a free - standing pylon sign on Rice Street to give better identification to <br />their facility. Initially there was discussion as to whether Bally would <br />be allowed a second pylon sign. They already have one on Minnesota <br />Avenue. However, after discussion with Bally, it was determined that <br />there are two businesses located in their building — the Bally corporate <br />office as well as the health club. Therefore, it was determined that a <br />second freestanding sign could be constructed. Once this was determined <br />Bally's sign company proceeded to install footings for a sign along Rice <br />Street. When it was discovered that the Rice Street property was actually <br />a separate parcel from the one Bally is located on, construction was halted. <br />At that point Bally was told there were two options. The first would be to <br />apply for a Conditional Use Permit for a Planned Unit Development which <br />Page 9 <br />
