PROCLAMATION <br />Whereas, Cities are gathering places for neighbors, families and friends, and <br />provide the cornerstone for creating and supporting the well -being of our <br />communities; and <br />Whereas, After natural disasters hit many of Minnesota's cities in recent months, <br />citizens, alongside their city officials, banded together to fight the rising rivers and <br />clean up their communities; and <br />Whereas, All communities, whether simply growing and changing or dealing with <br />disaster, provide a forum for citizens to reach out to each other, learn from each <br />other, and share ideas and resources; and <br />Whereas, Citizens' involvement in their government is essential, from <br />volunteering to serving in public office to simply understanding and caring about <br />the government that is closest to the people; and <br />Whereas, Cities Week 1998 -- Celebrating Caring Communities -- promotes the <br />value of cities and the role they play in developing communities and our home <br />towns; <br />Now Therefore I, , do hereby proclaim <br />October 5 through 11, 1998, to be <br />Cities Week <br />And encourage all citizens to become active partners with their city governments. <br />Page 53 <br />
