Hanson <br />Attached is a calendar showing the days available for scheduling the City's Truth In <br />Taxation Hearing. The Truth In Taxation Hearing can be held any dates beginning <br />Monday, November 3011, through Saturday, December 1e. The dates l have "X'd" out <br />are not available since the County, School Districts, and Metro Joint District hearings <br />have already been scheduled for those dates. <br />The Council must schedule a Truth In Taxation Hearing. However, a continuation <br />hearing is not mandatory. Should the Truth In Taxation Hearing be scheduled on or after <br />December 15'x', there would not be adequate time to schedule a continuation hearing and <br />still meet publishing deadlines. if a continuation hearing is scheduled, but becomes <br />unnecessary, the Council is not bound to hold that hearing. <br />Adoption of the 1999 Budget cannot occur at the Truth In Taxation Hearing. The City is <br />required to hold a separate public hearing for this purpose. That hearing must be held <br />one or more days after the Truth In Taxation Hearing (or immediately following the <br />continuation hearing if one is held) but no later than December 28, 1998. Certification of <br />the final Budget amounts must be made to the County immediately after adoption of the <br />Budget. <br />1t would be my recommendation that the City's Truth In Taxation hearing be scheduled <br />for Monday, December 7th, at 7 P.M. I would further recommend that adoption of the <br />1999 Budget occur at the December regular Council meeting. As has been past practice <br />of the Council to hold only one regular meeting in December, I would recommend that <br />meeting be held on Wednesday, December I6°', with the December 9th and 23" meetings <br />to be cancelled. <br />Page 62 <br />
