Fahey COUNCIL Beverly Sralze Jim LaValle Steve Morel= Bob Pedersen ADMINISTRATOR Joel R Hanson The attorneys representing the Cable Commission as well as North Central Communications Corporation DBA Meredith Cable are completing their negotiations of the franchise renewal. I anticipate that the renewal ordinance will be presented to the Council for action sometime in April. As part of the franchise renewal, Meredith is proposing to upgrade the system which will require stringing of some new overhead wires and replacement of some underground wires. They are proposing to string overhead wire in the areas where overhead already exists, and underground wire where there is currently underground. In areas where they would abandon an existing wire to replace it with a new overhead wire, they are proposing to wrap the new wire around the existing wire. In light of the Council's decision requiring Brooks Fiber to install underground (see copy of minutes attached), I would like the Council's position with respect to the Cable upgrade. If the Council were leaning toward requiring an underground upgrade, Meredith would like the opportunity to address the Council and try to convince them otherwise. As soon as the franchise ordinance is finalized, I will get a copy to each of you for your review. However, in the meantime, please let me lcnow your positions on overhead versus underground since Meredith and Torn Creighton, the attorney representing the Cable Commission, would like as much advance notice on this issue as possible.
