MINUTES
PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
OCTOBER 4, 2012
to proceed with these upgrades in 2013 (Nadeau), 2015 (Pioneer), and
2017 (Spooner).
The Commission discussed their next steps. With regard to the warming
house, the consensus was that St. John's Church should be contacted to
determine their willingness to sell some additional property that could be
added to an expanded skating rink site. Additionally, Metro Sewer must
be contacted to determine if it is possible to connect to sewer via their
trunk line through the area. Sanders suggested that as part of the land sale
deal, perhaps the two houses owned by St. John's could be provided with
City water.
With regard to playground equipment /park upgrades, it was noted that
improvements are planned for Rondeau Park in 2013, but these relate
mainly to landscaping. With regard to moving the playground equipment
upgrade for Nadeau Park to 2013, the next steps would be to tour Nadeau
Park as well as some recently constructed /upgrades parks so that the
Commission can get an idea of what is needed. Once the Commission has
a plan in place, a neighborhood meeting would be held to review that plan
with the neighborhood and determine if any plan modifications are
necessary.
The Commission discussed a park tour and given time of year and
schedules, it was decided that the Park Consultant and Parks & Rec
Director would put together a list of playgrounds for the Commissioners
to tour on their own prior to the November 1St Commission meeting. The
Commission will then discuss the Nadeau Park playground equipment at
that November 1St meeting to come up with a needs assessment, with the
Parks Consultant to then put a proposed upgrade plan/cost estimate
together. Once the plan is agreed on by the Commission, a neighborhood
meeting would be held.
Maida suggested incorporating the fitness stations as part of the
playground equipment upgrades. Sanders suggested that these stations
would be a good fit for the Round Lake area given the concentration of
adult users in this area. The Commission was agreeable that the fitness
stations would be appropriate for both playground areas as well as any
improvements made along Round Lake.
With regard to the Trail System Priority Plan, it was noted that the
Workshop discussion focused on including trail improvements as part of
future street projects as appropriate. The Little Canada Road sidewalk
improvement from 35E to Edgerton Street is programmed to proceed in
2
