INC.
Maximizing Human Potential for Life!
TO:
City Administrator
Joel Hanson
FROM: Greg Cylkowski
Sports for Life (SFL)
RE: Youth Sports Grant Resolution
DATE: July 1, 1998
I would like to take this opportunity to follow -up on our recent meeting whereby I would like to be on
the July 8, 1998, City Council agenda regarding a resolution for a Youth Sports Grant with the "Mighty
Kids" state funded program.
As I indicated to you, (SFL) has applied to the Minnesota Amateur Sports commission (MASC) for a
$2500.00 grant which would be utilized to subsidize the "All- American Girl Hockey Program" which
will take place in August. (SFL) will be the sponsoring agency liable for all expenses incurred during the
program.
If approved, the grant dollars would be funneled to assist young women who otherwise would not be able
to afford to attend. Thus, a financial aide scholarship program has been available for the past three years
to assist underprivileged and urban youth (see enclosure).
It is (SFL)'s goal to identify and offer this opportunity to girls who reside locally here in the community.
The criteria to receiving aide is outlined in the scholarship application whereby references are checked to
determine actual financial need.
In the past 2 years, funds have been allocated to attendees as follows:
30% paid full registration
40% paid partial registration
30% attended at no cost
Keep in mind that (SFL) is the only sports organization in the state that offers such a financial aide
program for its participants to attend its camps and clinics.
I look forward to being available at the upcoming city council needing in the goal of working together to
enhance athletic opportunities for area youth.
Page 101
3036 Ontario Road 0 St. Paul, MN 55117 0 (612) 484 -8299 0 Fax (612) 484 -8311
