MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 25, 1998
PRELIMINARY
PLAT —
GILANDERI
ADDITION
SIGN VARIANCE
UNION 76
The Council reviewed the request of Mr. Dick Kimmes, developer of
the Gilanderi Addition preliminary plat, and the recommendation of the
Planning Commission to table action on the preliminary plat for the
Gilanderi Addition until the April 25th City Council meeting.
Mrs. Scaize introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 98 -2 -35 — CONTINUING THE PUBLIC
HEARING ON THE PRELIMINARY PLAT FOR THE GILANDERI
ADDITION UNTIL THE APRIL 25, 1998 REGULAR COUNCIL
MEETING AS REQUESTED BY MR DICK KIMMES AND AS
RECOMMENDED BY THE PLANNING COMMISSION
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mr. LaValle.
Ayes (5) Scaize, LaValle, Fahey, Morelan, Pedersen.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
Mayor Fahey opened the public hearing to consider an application
submitted by James Brandl, the owner of the Union 76 station at 300 East
Little Canada Road, for a variance from the Sign Ordinance regulating
sign area and number of signs. The Planning Commission reviewed the
variance request and recommended approval.
Morelan asked if Brandl was the current owner of Union 76 and whether
he would remain owner. Brandl replied in the affirmative to each
question.
Morelan asked if the City Planner was recommending approval of the
variance request based on past variance actions at this site. The City
Planner replied that the variance would be consistent with past actions.
However, the given the time period over which these actions have
occurred, the City would be free to disregard the past variance actions.
Morelan asked if the Planner had worked with the applicant to bring the
variance request more into compliance with the Code. The Planner replied
that he had and indicated that the original proposal was for higher signs.
This request was modified prior to presenting it to the Planning
Commission and the City Council.
There was no one present from the general public wishing to comment on
this matter.
Page 20
