Spotlight Communities
Depending on the topic that requires utilization of a best practice analysis, staff is requesting the
flexibility to include cities that are doing unique and innovative work in our departments. This
data would specifically be called out as a “spotlight” when doing research and presenting to
council.

Public Works Spotlight Communities: Woodbury and Rosemount
Parks and Recreation Spotlight Community: Woodbury
Administration Spotlight Community: Woodbury

Not all departments have a spotlight community due to the nature of their work. For example,
compensation based research would not have a spotlight, nor would Finance.

Questions or purposes of discussion:
1. Does this council support use of these department specific lists?
a. Do you have other recommendations?

Strategic Priority:
Strategic Direction: Creating Supportive Networks

Action Items: Share strategic plan with neighboring communities and engage other cities to
develop area best practices.

Subitem to accomplish action item: Develop council supported list of approved community
comparable for best practices

Source Of Funds:
• The creation of a community comparable list has no cost implication. However, the
approved compensation study list will likely have financial implications in the future as
the implementation scenarios are proposed by MGT.

Staff Recommendations:
• Discuss the presented comparable communities lists (Compensation, Administration,
Finance, Public Works, Parks, and Community Development).

Attachments:
• None
