MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
November 3, 1994
per month. Johnson felt that one per month would be too
restrictive since the City may only receive two requests per
year that could come in the same month. The Director
suggested setting a number for the course of the season
instead of on a monthly basis.
Hartmann stated that he was against two tournaments per
month since people would park on the street, there would be
more cars in the neighborhood, it could present a safety
hazard to the children in the area, and the neighborhood
would have to deal with all the noise. He commented that
the people who live on DeSoto Street would also be against
it
Holm stated that he would like to see the fields at Pioneer
Park used more. He stated that he does live on Centerville
Road by the park and he feels that is where most of the
parking problems occur. Holm stated that he would like to
see tournaments there every other weekend. He felt the
fields should be used and that is why the City built them.
Wehrle felt that the policy should be left informal to see
how it works. Remerowski stated that he was not in favor of
a wide open policy and he felt that $500 for a weekend
tournament was not enough money for the City. The Director
stated that he would set a fee that would be competitive.
Remerowski felt that the City should let the Director use
his judgment on use of the fields by outside groups and if
the use gets out of hand, then the City could set a formal
policy. The Director stated that some people think that
Little Canada will never have outside use of the fields at
Pioneer Park. He just wanted that fact clarified.
Hartmann stated that he likes living by Pioneer Park, but he
would like to see more use by Little Canada residents not
outside use.
The Director stated that he would not want to go against the
Commission's wishes. If there was a problem with use of the
park, it would be corrected.
Wehrle thought that the number of tournaments held should be
limited to one per month for the next year or two, but he
does not think it will see that much use. The Director
stated that he would rather see a limit on the number that
could be held per year. Remerowski felt that the Commission
should let the Director decide. Johnson stated that she was
in favor of limiting the number on a yearly basis.
Remerowski did not think there would be a lot of outside
use. Hartmann felt that the use should be limited with no
-9-
Page 72
