MINUTES OF THE WORKSHOP MEETING <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA <br />NOVEMBER 14, 2012 <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a workshop meeting of the City <br />Council of Little Canada, Minnesota was convened on the 14th day of <br />November, 2012 in the Council Chambers of the City Center located at <br />515 Little Canada Road in said City. <br />Mayor Bill Blesener called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and the <br />following members of the City Council were present at roll call: <br />CITY COUNCIL: Mayor Mr. Bill Blesener <br />Council Member Ms. Shelly Boss <br />Council Member Mr. John Keis <br />Council Member Mr. Mike McGraw <br />Council Member Mr. Rick Montour <br />ALSO PRESENT: City Administrator Mr. Joel R. Hanson <br />RAMSEY The Council welcomed Sheriff Matt Bostrom who was present this <br />COUNTY evening to provide the City with an update of the various activities <br />SHERIFF of the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department. Sheriff Bostrom <br />MATT informed the Council that the Sheriff's Department performs five core <br />BOSTROM services for Ramsey County. Those services are detention, courts <br />security, patrol, investigations, lakes and trails covering 82 recreational <br />areas and 23 lakes, and 18 miles along the Mississippi River. The <br />Sheriff's Department also performs some administrative duties such as <br />serving warrants and issuing gun permits. The Sheriff's Department has a <br />defined mission for each of these core services. <br />Bostrom provided some highlights on the Sheriff's Department's day -to- <br />day operations. He also reported that the Department has an added focus <br />on improving communications with the public through social media. <br />Another undertaking has been to implement a performance evaluation <br />system within the department, noting that such evaluations have not been <br />done over the past 17 years. Bostrom reported that another initiative <br />relates to crime scene response and investigations not only for the County <br />but also to provide assistance to other departments. The Sheriff's <br />Department has been sending personnel to the BCA for investigative <br />training. <br />The Council asked what was the make -up of the Sheriff's staff. Sheriff <br />Bostrom stated there are 420 paid positions with 225 sworn officers, 140 <br />in corrections, and the rest made up of community service officers, clerks, <br />etc. <br />
