MINUTES
PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
JANUARY 31, 2013
NADEAU The Parks Consultant reported that Flanagan Sales has submitted
PARK two options for the upgrade of the Nadeau Park playground equipment.
UPGRADE The Consultant noted that the equipment is manufactured by Little Tykes,
and that Flanagan Sales is a very reputable company.
The first option was a traditional play structure with slides and climbing
walls. The second option had a little more modern appearance. The
Consultant indicated the surfacing proposed to be used is wood fiber and
pointed out that the brown - colored area under the equipment is the safety
zone. It was pointed out that these two proposals fill more of the space
within the curbed area.
Vang commented that these options appear bigger than the first proposal.
Slain felt there were more activities and stations in the proposal from
Flanagan Sales, and that there were activities that would appeal to a mix
of age groups. Slain and Sullivan indicated that they liked Option 2 of
this proposal set.
The Commission discussed cost, with the Consultant indicating that the
cost of Flagship Option 3 is estimated at $49,500 and Flanagan Option 2
at $54,000. The Commission discussed and compared these two options
at length and the consensus was to present both at a neighborhood
meeting. It was felt that Flanagan Option 2 should be modified to include
an infant swing, along with the two swings shown. The Commission also
felt that Flanagan Option 2 should be modified to show similar colors to
Flagship Option 3. Additionally, there should be options presented at the
neighborhood meeting for changing out some of the elements of both
proposals.
The Commission consensus was that the neighborhood meeting will be
held on Thursday, March 7th, at 7:30 p.m. to present the Nadeau Park
playground redevelopment options.
2013 GOAL The Commission reviewed the results of the 2013 Goal Setting session.
SETTING The Clerk reported that the next step would be that proposed action plans
SESSION for each of the goals would be presented to the City Council modification
and adoption. In addition to the specific 2013 goals, work would be done
to try to accomplish all of the goals that were presented at the Goal Setting
session.
5
