MEMORANDUM
DATE: January 14, 1997
TO: Joel Hanson /
FROM: Paul Heuer .
RE: Arcade Street - Aspen Grove Ditch Filling
FILE: 37231
•
Bonestroo
Rosene
Anderlik &
Associates
Engineers & Architects
We are responding to your request for information concerning filling a ditch within the Aspen Grove
development (see attached figure) in conjunction with the Arcade Street reconstruction project. As we
understand it, some property owner's feel that the sides of the ditch shown on the attached figure is too steep,
resulting in yard space that has limited use.
We have reviewed the grading plan and find that the side slopes of the ditch along the rear lot lines were
designed to be quite moderate (9:1 to 18:1). Given the amount of snow at this time, our site visit did not
provide any clues as to whether the development was constructed to the grades shown on the grading plan.
The attached cost estimate provides a rough idea of the magnitude of costs expected to fill the ditch to create
more gradual grades. Please be advised that private chain link fences run along all of these rear lot lines. In
addition, some small trees may lie within the proposed fill area. We have not included any costs for dealing
with fences or trees. We suggest that all property owners be responsible for removing and replacing their own
fences and trees.
Please also note that a shed is located on one of the properties within or near the proposed fill area. If the
property owner cannot easily move it, then we would have to look closer at the existing grades of the area to
see if the shed can be worked around.
Page 29
