Mayor David Hamilton and his wife paid their official visit to Little Canada and <br />participated in events at Canadian Days in August. Sister Cities and International <br />Friendship Days volunteers also participated in the Canadian Days parade. Art Craven <br />was Honorary Parade Marshall and the MacGillivary Pipe Band was given special <br />recognition in honour of the 20th anniversary of the Sister Cities relationship. A Scout <br />Troop from Thunder Bay paid a return visit to Little Canada and camped in the former <br />Mayor's backyard. Videos of the Canadian Days celebrations were provided to Shaw <br />Community Cable Television for broadcast in Thunder Bay. <br />A pen pal relationship has been established with a Grade Four class at Forest Park <br />School.. <br />Duluth: Isabel Rapaich, Councillor and former Chair of the Duluth Sister Cities <br />Commission paid an official visit during International Friendship Days. <br />A long- distance bingo involved residents of Hogarth Westmount Hospital in Thunder Bay <br />and the Francescan Health Centre in Duluth. The Hermantown Youth Choir spent a <br />weekend with students from Kingsway and Sherbrooke School. Another exchange took <br />place between Gorham & Ware School and Woodland Middle School. The Sister Cities <br />Committee acknowledges the efforts of Pat Towell and Dr. Gibb Taylor in making these <br />visits successful. <br />Duluth and Thunder Bay shared a display at the Northern Networks Trade Conference to <br />promote the role of Sister Cities relationships in developing international trade. <br />Jurong East: Pen pal relationships continued between students in Thunder Bay and <br />Jurong East. The Mayor visited Jurong East in October. <br />Keelung: The Mayor visited Keelung in October. <br />Seinajoki: It was determined that official documents had never been signed. New <br />twinning certificates were produced and signed by the Mayor. Maino Mantilla arranged an <br />official signing ceremony when the Finnish Male Singers of North America toured Finland <br />this summer. <br />Siderno: A number of contacts for exchanges were established by the Chair on a visit to <br />Siderno. An invitation was extended to Scouts in Siderno to attend the Jamboree. <br />An application for incorporation as a charitable corporation was submitted. When <br />approved, this will allow the Sub - Committee to raise funds for exchange activities. <br />The official visit by the Mayor and signing cermony was postponed due to the municipal <br />election in Siderno. Twinning certificates have been prepared for signing. <br />Page 28 <br />
