Neighborhood Watch Refresher Meeting Topics <br />1) Overview of the Sheriff's Department <br />The Crime Prevention Officer of the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department will present <br />information about the number of deputies, how the department is organized, what services are <br />and are not provided, the annual number of calls for service, what type of calls are most <br />common, how many squad cars are normally on the street and what is their patterns of patrol, <br />and whether there are any "high crime" areas in the Ramsey County Contract Cities. <br />2) Fire Protection <br />A fire department representative will cover where smoke detectors should be installed, what <br />type of detectors should be used, how Volunteer Fire Department operates, etc., then answer <br />questions. <br />3) Tour <br />The group will meet at the Sheriff's Department Patrol Station, 655 W County Road E in <br />Shoreview, where a member of the Sheriff's Department will give them a tour of the building, <br />including the Dispatch office 911 console, squad garage. Most people find the Dispatch office <br />a fascinating part of the tour. <br />4) Animal Control <br />An Animal Control Representative or Crime Prevention staff member will cover ordinances <br />and information about service. Few neighborhoods in Ramsey County are without problems of <br />some kind with the domestic animals in their area. Few people are knowledgeable about the <br />animal ordinances and the rights and responsibilities of residents, both animal owners and <br />non -animal owners. <br />5) Canine Unit <br />The Ramsey County Sheriff's Canine officer and his partner do a demonstration of the dog's <br />capabilities, (outdoors) and the Deputy explains the dog's training, cost to Ramsey County, <br />how he protects deputies and the cases in which the dog has been responsible for arrests. <br />Page 26 <br />
