Page 3
What if I want to sell, trade, or give away marked property?
When marking your property, leave enough room so that the PIN of a future owner can be engraved below
your own. If you sell, trade, or give away Any of your marked property, DO NOT cross off or obliterate
your PIN in any manner on the marked property. If the prospective owner does not have a PIN, you may
wish to advise him to obtain one from the police department in the jurisdiction he resides in. It is illegal
to obliterate the original PIN.
The person buying marked property should mark it per the following example:
MN0620100GWW2310 (original owner)
MN0620100STP5640 (second owner) (5/82)
MN0621500ALM1234 (third owner) (2/84)
The buyer should place their PIN on the property, under your PIN then place in a parenthesise, the month
and year they obtained possession of the property. You should be sure to remove that item from your
inventory sheet after it is sold.
Mow much does it cost to enroll in Operation Identification?
Operation Identification is FREE! If you choose to purchase an engraver or blacklight pen, it will cost
you as will the purchase of film or video tape. However, these costs, together with the time you spend
marking, inventorying and photographing your property, will pay a substantial return on your investment
should you become the victim of a burglary or theft!
1 /97
Page 37
