(612) 266-8350
FAX (612) 2668370
Dear Bob,
This is to inform you that it is my intention to add a sixth site
to be studied as a potential site for an additional Ramsey County
Adult Detention Center by Ramsey County. That site is located at
694 and Rice Street in the area of the present Ramsey County
Maintenance Facility. The Maintenance Facility is in the process
of evaluating a site at the arsenal in Arden Hills and would be
available at that point. This is the site I advised you of at
lunch on February 24, 1997.
The site is owned by Ramsey County, therefore it would require no
tax dollars to purchase. This site also is approximately 12 acres,
not including an additional 8 acres across the street at the
Owasso Home site, or the other acreage on the southeast corner
that the County now owns. This site would provide for space to put
a combined suburban court; space for a new Sheriff's patrol
station which I understand is overcrowded; and it would still
leave room to build a one stop suburban Ramsey County government
center. It is located fairly close to the center of Ramsey County.
Being at the center of Ramsey County it would become convenient
for the local police departments as well as your department which
services 7 of those suburban communities, with adequate parking.'
I realize it was the previous County Board who put forward the
sites that are now under consideration. There is now a new Board
with some new ideas, and as a suburban County Commissioner I
realize we (the County) have the responsibility to build a new
jail and you have the responsibility to run that new jail.
Minnesota's First Home Rule County
printed on recycled paper with a minimum of IO% pOst consumer content
Page 165
