(612) 266.8350
FAX (612) 266.8370
Dear Terry,
I am requesting that an additional site be placed for evaluation for the
new Ramsey County Adult Detention Center. This site would be on the
maintenance property that Ramsey County presently owns in the area of
694 and Rice Street. There are approximately 12 acres there presently
with an additional 8 acres across the street at the Owasso Home site, as
well as additional acreages across Rice Street from that site.
I believe with the plans to move the maintenance center this land would
be available at no cost to the county. There is still plenty of time to
have this site evaluated by those evaluating the previous 5 sites. I
understand there were 22 sites at one point and it has been whittled
down to about 5 sites. I feel with the changes on the Board, and the
changes in what is happening with that property on 694 and Rice Street,
we should look at this as a potential site. We could consolidate not
only the new jail, but a new Sheriff's patrol station, as well as
combining the suburban courts. We would also have enough space to look
at a suburban service center for other agencies.
You and I have discussed this previously. This was also brought up last
Tuesday when we met with the Ramsey County League of Local Governments.
I've enclosed a copy of a letter that I sent to Sheriff Fletcher
regarding this issue. He and I discussed this issue back in February
over lunch.
I want to formally put this into consideration at this time while there
is time to evaluate it before the final report comes in. We would be
derelict in our responsibilities if we did not consider sites that we
already own, whereby we can save Ramsey County property tax dollars.
Sincerely,
.
