TEEN COURT DECISIONS MADE TO DATE: <br />Ages: 12 -17 years old <br />Geographic boundaries: <br />Must be residents of and offense must occur in the following cities or attend school within <br />the boundaries of District 623: <br />• Roseville <br />• Falcon Heights <br />• Lauderdale <br />• Little Canada <br />Offenses: <br />• Tobacco <br />• Alcohol <br />• Curfew <br />• Shoplifting <br />• Misdemeanor Criminal Damage <br />• Specifically defined disorderly conduct <br />• School -type offenses that are disruptive or create a hostile learning environment <br />Requirements: <br />• First Time Offense <br />• Voluntary <br />• Must Admit Guilt <br />• Non Gang Member <br />• Parental Involvement <br />Purpose of the Teen Court: <br />• Low cost, alternative response to the juvenile justice system <br />• Early intervention <br />• Swift, appropriate, and meaningful consequences for behavior <br />• Community holds youth accountable <br />• Educate youth on the impact of their actions <br />• Positive peer pressure <br />• Include youth in leadership and decision making bodies in the community <br />• Provides a meaningful forum for youth to develop and practice new skills <br />• Parental, youth, and community involvement <br />• Advocates and resources for parents <br />• Restorative Justice Principles <br />o Offender accountability to victim and community <br />• Promote Developmental Assets in youth volunteers and youth offenders <br />• Utilize intergenerational resources to build competencies in youth <br />• Collaborative way to work with the diverse populations that are representative of the <br />community <br />Page 176 <br />
