MINUTES
PARKS & RECREATION
MAY 1,1997
County has been willing to negotiate. Christensen asked if the City had first option, and the
Director replied that he thought they did, but that he did not see a great urgency to acquire the
property, since it does not appear buildable. Sanders suggested putting it on the workshop
agenda.
OTHER The Director reported that registration was currently being conducted for Summer Day
BUSINESS Camp, Adventures in the Park and Tennis and Golf Lessons, and that youth Summer Ball is
beginning.
Bianchi reported that she has heard positive feedback from the new playground equipment at
Gervais Beach. She said that it was safer because of the proximity of the equipment to the
shoreline.
Johnson reported on the Arbor Day Celebration and thanked the Hubert H. Humphrey Job
Corps for providing the refreshments and also thanked Public Works and other City Staff for
their participation. Johnson also reported on the Nadeau Park Clean-up Day. Sanders said that
the amount of trash was indicative of the amount of traffic.
Ables reported on the Roseville Area Arts Commission. She said that their current project
was, in conjunction with the school district and parents, to raise funds to completely refurbish
the theater at Roseville Area Middle School. This would include adding another entryway,
new sound, and new lighting, and one of the estimates was $110,000. The theater will be for
use by residents of Little Canada, Roseville and surrounding cities. Bianchi said that the
school had sent a flyer to parents defining the project and asking for help. The Director asked
when the Arts Commission will be meeting with the architects next, and Ables replied
Monday, May 5th at the Roseville Area Middle School. Ables said it was an open forum and
that everyone was invited to attend.
Bianchi reminded the Commission that the neighborhood partnership planting is 6:00 a.m.
Saturday, May 3`l. They have over 120 volunteers to put in 880 vines and shrubs and that
Public Works had been out to till and bring wood chips. Ables mentioned that she had seen
the article on the front page of the Review. Bianchi said she appreciated the publicity, but that
the article focused too much on an individual, when it really was a partnership and a lot of
people were not mentioned that should have been.
The Director presented the proposed lot division at the corner of LaBore and Greenbrier. He
said that the Council wanted to know if the Commission would like to take a percentage of
land or money for the park dedication fee. Ables moved to take the money, Christensen
seconded. Motion carried 4 -0.
There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:53 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
piA. -lll.(
Jennifer Aasen
Recording Secretary
10
Page 181
