Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: August 7, 1997
RE: Centerville Road Water Main Improvement — Neighborhood Meeting
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADbIINISfUATOR
Joel R Hanson
A neighborhood meeting was conducted regarding the above - referenced project at 7:00 p.m. on
August 6, 1997 in the conference room of Little Canada's City Center. Paul Heuer of Bonestroo,
Rosene, Anderlik & Associates, Scott Tangen, Public Works Director, and Joel Hanson, City
Administrator were present representing the City of Little Canada. Jeff Vogel was the only
citizen in attendance. Paul reviewed the basics of the project. (See attached sheet for project
summary information.) He pointed out that we had received a petition from four residents in this
area asking for water main. He stated that we looked at various alignment options and were
proposing the east side of Centerville Road due to the ability to avoid impact to mature trees in
front of the residences. He noted that using the west side of the right -of -way does not work
because of tree impact as well as location of sanitary sewer lines. He stated a third alignment
was evaluated that is possible which would put the water main in the residents' front yards closer
to their homes. This would result in estimated cost savings to the project of about $6,000 to
$7,000 in addition to savings in connection costs due to shorter service runs. There would still
be some tree impact in this situation and we would need to acquire easements on a donated basis
if this alignment were to be followed.
It was noted that this project could wait until a later date, but will likely be required at the time
Centerville Road is reconstructed. Current schedules call for that work to occur in 2001. The
construction would be done by Ramsey County and water main could be installed in conjunction
with that project.
Mr. Vogel indicated that he supports the project, but could wait until a later date. He stated one
of his neighbors is having water quality problems and he indicated that either timeline would be
fine with him.
Page 4
