MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
June 1, 1995
the property before it is put up for sale to the general
public.
Remerowski stated that the Commission looked at the land
tonight as part of their tour of the parks. Sanders stated
that it would be nice to place a trail around the wetland in
the area since it is very scenic. Johnson felt that it
would not be used very much since it is mainly a commercial
area. Sanders stated that the people working in the area
would use it. Remerowski stated that the Commission could
look into a trail around the wetland, but if it doesn't
happen, it doesn't happen. He stated that the trail would
serve few residents.
Sanders stated that the Commission could ask for a trail
easement on the two parcels. Holm stated that the trail
could be connected to the Water Works trail.
Remerowski felt that the Commission should not buy the land,
but when the land is developed, the Commission could look
into obtaining access around the pond through land
dedication. Holm suggested the possibility of the St. Paul
Board of Water Commissioners deeding over access around the
wetland to the City before the sale of the property.
Remerowski felt that could be a hang up on the sale of the
property. Remerowski felt that it could be sufficient to
just run the trail on the east side of the wetland without
having to go around it. He felt that this would provide a
connection from the Water Works trail to Country Drive.
Sanders felt that deeding the access over to the City was
not a bad idea.
Johnson recommended not purchasing the two parcels from the
St. Paul Board of Water Commissioners. However, when the
land is developed, the Commission would like to consider
obtaining access around the wetland through land dedication
or the Commission would be interested in working with the
St. Paul Board of Water Commissioners to possibly have
access around the wetland deeded over to the City.
Motion seconded by Doolittle.
Motion carried 7 - 0.
It was felt that the City Administrator should contact the
St. Paul Board of Water Commissioners to make them aware of
the Commission's discussion on the property.
TOILET Sanders presented three drawings of proposed portable
SCREENING toilet screenings for Pioneer Park. The first drawing
showed the screening with wood walls, the second was
constructed of concrete block to match the park building,
Page 7
