MINUTES
PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
MARCH 7, 2013
on to and glide across is not often used. Olson also reported on
questionable activity that takes place in Nadeau Park on occasion.
Maida encouraged the neighbors to contact the Sheriff's Department
when there is questionable activity going on as well as inform the City.
The City can ask the Sheriff's Department to patrol the area more
frequently.
Maida asked the cost of the two options. Sanders replied that both options
are at approximately $50,000, the City's budget for this improvement,
with Option 1 slightly over. Slain asked if a digger would be part of
Option 1. Sanders replied that the existing digger could be retained.
The Director reported that the existing benches and picnic table would
remain, and would be replaced or repaired if warranted.
Olson asked the timetable for replacement. Sanders estimated the middle
of July or beginning of August.
Wenzel suggested that the swings be grouped together, rather than having
the baby swing and older swing on opposite sides of the play structure.
Olson agreed.
Vang asked if the play structures as proposed appeared to cover the
desired age ranges. Slain indicated that it appeared that Option 1 had
elements that would appear to a wider age range. Slain also pointed out
for the public that Option 2 has been revised to include a shade element
similar to Option 1. Wenzel stated that she felt the revised shade element
was preferable.
Sullivan informed the public that in putting together these designs, the
Commissioners toured other parks in neighboring communities to get
ideas and see some of the new playground equipment that is being used.
Alex Sether reported that he lives a block from Nadeau Park, and is
currently working on his Eagle Scout Badge. Sether stated that he felt
Option 1 was the more appealing of the two options, but suggested that a
second shade element be added.
A resident of the Canabury Townhomes stated that she is very excited
about the playground improvement indicating that she has three children
that utilize the park. This resident agreed that the gliding track element is
one that is not used by children. This resident indicated her preference
was for Option 1.
3
