MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />MARCH 7, 2013 <br />just prior to the May Commission meeting. The time can be decided on at <br />the April Commission meeting. <br />COMMISSION The Commission discussed changing its regular meeting start time to <br />MEETING 6:30 p.m. The Commission was in agreement with this change. The <br />STARTING Director indicated that there is nothing in the ordinance that establishes <br />TIME a specific start time. He indicated that he will present this matter to the <br />City Council for ratification. If the Council is in agreement, the April <br />Commission meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. <br />OTHER <br />REPORTS <br />The Director reported that Market Place Morning Talks is scheduled for <br />March 13th. The topic is "Neuropathy & New Treatments ". <br />The Director indicated that packets have been mailed to potential vendors <br />for the 2013 Farmers' Market. These packets are also available on -line to <br />interested vendors. The market will be held on Monday afternoons from <br />3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. from June 17, 2013 through September 30, 2013 <br />(excluding Labor Day). The Director reported that the market will be <br />moved to the front parking lot at the Saxon to provide more visibility. <br />The Director reported that youth activities registration for spring and <br />summer activities is now open. These activities include after school <br />activities, baseball, floor hockey, t -ball and pop -up, and softball. <br />The Director reported that Friends of the Parks will is conducting their <br />annual tree sale. Information is available at www.FriendsoftheParks.org. <br />The Director next reported on fund - raising activities conducted by the <br />Little Canada Recreation Association (LCRA) which support youth <br />activities in Little Canada. LCRA's upcoming event is its Annual Casino <br />Bus Trip which will be held on Saturday, March 23rd. Information is <br />available at LCRAonline.org. The Director noted that LCRA recently <br />held its Second Annual Ice Fishing Contest on February 2 ". Final <br />numbers are not yet in, but it appears this event raised $4,000 to $5,000 <br />for youth programs. The Director noted that LCRA recently took 40 <br />basketball players and their coaches to a Timberwolves Game. LCRA will <br />be celebrating its 50°i Anniversary hosting an event for past and current <br />members. <br />The Director indicated that the City is still taking registrations for adult <br />softball depending on availability. He reported that the Friday open <br />volleyball sessions scheduled through March were discontinued due to <br />5 <br />
